2018 Statistics Department Diploma Ceremony

Statistics graduates and their family and friends are cordially invited to the department's Diploma Ceremony following the University's graduation exercises. Our event is held together with the Math and Comp Sci program and the Math department.

General Information

Location
The diploma ceremony will take place in the oak grove between Sequoia Hall and Sloan Center (Math Corner).

Time
Graduates and guests generally arrive from the main ceremony at 11:30am. Our reception will be held prior to the diploma ceremony, however, everyone should be seated by 12:30pm. The ceremony will begin shortly thereafter and lasts until approximately 2pm.

Seating and Ticket Information
Tickets are not required, and there is no reserved seating for guests. There will be plenty of seating, however, guests may wish to arrive early for best seat selection. The majority of seating is in the shade.

Information about disability accommodations and special requests for Commencement weekend can be found at the Commencement web site.

Your graduate can request accessible seating through thru the RSVP (Google) form sent to them via email.

For Graduates

Attendance
Regardless of whether you intend to participate in the Diploma Ceremony, all graduates (autumn, winter, spring) and "walks" (summer) must notify the department no later than Monday, June 4, using the RSVP (Google) form sent to them via email.

Cap and Gown
Starting March 12 you can order your cap and gown online via Stanford bookstore.

The deadline for ordering is Friday, April 30, 2018. Online orders and open-stock will be available from the Bookstore lower level on June 8. (Limited stock is available at the bookstore the day of graduation.) Please contact the Stanford Bookstore with any questions at (650) 329-1217, ext. 8329.

Graduate Seating
All graduates will be seated alphabetically by program/degree in the section on the right side facing the stage. Upon arrival at the grove, please look for the "RESERVED FOR GRADUATES" sign and locate your name within your designated major/program. Accessibility
If you or your family need accessible seating, please indicate how many seats you will need in the RSVP webform. There will be a marked section of chairs for guests with wheelchairs and their families on the left side facing the stage. Please check in with student services for the correct location of these seats.

Letters of Invitation for Use by F-1 or J-1 Students
Students are advised to write their own invitation letters along with providing supporting documents.

For Guests

Location
The department ceremony will take place in the oak grove between Sequoia Hall and Sloan Hall where Lomita Mall meets Serra Mall.

Time
Graduates and guests generally arrive from the University's ceremony at 11:30am. Everyone should be seated by 12:30pm.

General Seating and Ticket Information
Tickets are not required, and there is no reserved seating for your guests; We will have plenty of seating for your guests, however, they may wish to arrive early for best seat selection. The majority of seating is in the shade.

Refreshments
We highly recommend eating prior to the University ceremony and also bringing a snack. The department will provide light refreshments immediately prior to the diploma and awards ceremony, starting at approximately 11:30am.

Photography
There will be no professional photography at the event, but an area on the exit side of the stage for photography. We politely ask that you leave the photography area once your graduate has walked across the stage so that other guests have the opportunity to take photos of their graduate.

Wheelchair Seating, Accessibility, and Other Services

Restrooms
Restrooms are available in Sequoia Hall, as well as these locations:

  • Lasuen Street at the tour group loading area
  • Memorial Church (One restroom on each side of building; These are the only restrooms open to the public in the Quadrangle area of the campus.)
  • Stanford Bookstore
  • Tresidder Union

Parking
Parking for the main Commencement ceremony is available in the parking lots surrounding the Stadium. Please note that some lots require a permit. Parking for guests with state-issued or temporary disabled parking permits is available in the Varsity Lot. Shuttle Service on campus and to/from Caltrain will be availble.

We recommend leaving your car near the stadium and walking to the department ceremony located in the oak grove between Sequoia Hall and Sloan Hall.

Do not leave valuables in your car.

If you are attending the ceremony in the stadium, officials are implementing a new policy to provide a safer environment for the public and expedite entry into Stanford Stadium. This policy limits the size and types of bags permitted. Items must be carried or fit into a permissible bag.
