Art Owen to receive 2021 SSC Gold Medal

The Gold Medal is awarded by the Statistical Society of Canada to a person who has made outstanding contributions to statistics or probability, either to mathematical developments or in applied work, is a current leader in their field and has made high-quality research contributions to the statistical sciences in Canada. Professor Owen has met all these criteria and brought honor to our department with this recognition. The citation for his selection reads:

For his fundamental contributions to Statistical Science, especially his invention of Empirical Likelihood and his advances in Quasi-Monte Carlo methods, his training of graduate students and contributions to the Statistical Profession.
