Together with David Cox of the University of Oxford, Brad Efron has been honored as a Laureate in the 2016 edition of these awards, "for revolutionizing statistics." The BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Awards seek to recognize and encourage world-class research and artistic creation, prizing contributions of broad impact for their originality and theoretical significance. This recognition is intended to encapsulate both research work that successfully enlarges the scope of our current knowledge – pushing forward the frontiers of the known world – and the meeting and overlap of different disciplinary areas. The awards will be presented at a formal ceremony in Madrid this June.
Established in 2008, the awards are presented by The BBVA Foundation, belonging to financial group BBVA, in partnership with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). Brad is being honored in the Basic Sciences category; last year’s award went to physicists Stephen Hawking and Viatcheslav Mukhanov.
