David Donoho speaks at AMS Congressional Briefing in Washington DC

Professor Donoho was the featured speaker at the recent Congressional Lunch Briefing held by the American Mathematical Society, their first in partnership with MSRI. Attendees were from sister scientific societies, local universities and federal agencies, and included Congressional members and their staff: Representative Nancy Pelosi and Senator Charles Schumer also offered remarks. Dave used his time to explain how federally funded mathematical research has transitioned in just 10 years from "brainiac" math journals to FDA-approved medical devices that represent game-changing, and life-saving, new technologies. His talk gave a great example of how federal investment in basic science research pays off for American taxpayers, and is available as a department Technical Report.
