Joseph Romano named 2021 LGBTQ+ Scientist of the Year

Recognizing numerous outstanding contributions to his field with impacts ranging from econometrics to climate science, the LGBTQ+ Scientist of the Year Award has been presented to Professor Romano by Out to Innovate. The breadth and importance of Joe’s work, and specifically his development of new statistical tools such as subsampling and the stationary bootstrap, are described in his letters of support, which were submitted by scholars across the US and Europe. Letter writers also noted his role as an inspiration to many LGBTQ+ students at Stanford. "Joe is extremely caring, and he is always keenly aware of his ability to be a positive influence for LGBTQ+ scientists. His stature enables him to act as an ambassador for them." We are so glad to share the news that Joe has been honored with this distinction.
