Andrea Montanari and Jonathan Taylor have both been invited to speak in the Probability and Statistics track at next summer's International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM 2018) to be held in Rio de Janeiro. Inaugurated in 1897, the ICM takes place every four years and has helped shape the history of mathematics in the 20th and 21st centuries. The Rio event will be the first edition to take place in Latin America and the first in the southern hemisphere, and an invitation to present is deemed a very special honor—which testifies to Andrea’s and Jonathan’s exceptional professional standing, not only in the statistical sciences but in the mathematical sciences at large. The entire Statistics Department congratulates them for this recognition!
