A new Stein Fellow for 2025

Kai Tan will join the department as a Stein Fellow on August 1st. Kai arrives here from Rutgers University with a Ph.D. in Statistics under Professor Pierre Bellec following on from two M.S. degrees in Statistics from the University of Kentucky Lexington and East China Normal University, Shanghai. In 2023 Kai received a NeurIPS Scholar Award as well as the Gold Medal at the Conference on Recent Advances in Statistics and Data Science student poster competition. His research interests include uncertainty quantification of machine learning algorithms, high-dimensional statistical inference, robust regression, optimization, Markov chain choice models, dimension reduction, and graphical models. Most recently at Rutgers Kai was TA for courses on statistical learning and "data wrangling"!
