Congratulations!
Department Virtual Celebration
In early April, the H&S deans reaffirmed that all H&S department and program commencement celebrations will remain virtual this year. Our department has produced a celebratory pre-recorded video featuring those who wished to share a photo and heart-felt message. It includes guest speaker Brad Klingenberg (PhD '12, Statistics), Chief Algorithms Officer, Daily Harvest (and former Stitch Fix CAO), messages from faculty, and slideshows of award recipients and graduates.
"Congratulations, Class of 2021": A Celebration Video
University Ceremony
Stanford looks forward to celebrating Commencement IN-PERSON (woohoo!!) at the main University ceremony in the Stanford Stadium. To ensure necessary social distancing, there will be two ceremonies: one for advanced degree candidates on Saturday, June 12, at 9:30 a.m. PDT and one for the senior class of 2021 on Sunday, June 13, at 9:30 a.m. PDT. Each graduate will be able to invite two guests. Both ceremonies will be live-streamed and recorded for those who are not joining in person.
Who can participate in the ceremony?
Students are eligible to participate in the Commencement ceremony if they have had a degree conferred in Summer ’20, Autumn ’20 or Winter ‘21, or they are expected to have a degree conferred in Spring ’21 or Summer ‘21. Students in other circumstances who wish to participate may complete this form (requires Stanford login) to request to walk.
Do graduates need to register in order to attend in person?
Yes, all graduates must register to participate in the in-person ceremony on their designated day. Details on how to register to participate in person will be announced shortly. Please note that this will be in addition to applying to graduate through the Registrar’s Office. No additional registration is required to watch the livestream.
Diplomas
Information about obtaining your diploma. Summer graduates usually receive their diplomas towards the end of autumn/beginning of winter quarter. Both spring and summer graduates should ensure that their mailing address has been updated in Axess.
Cap and Gown
While no cap and gown is required for any part of the virtual celebrations, some of you may still like to order regalia so you can take pictures with/for your family. To order rental regalia visit the Stanford Bookstore Graduation Gear page. The last day to order online is Monday, May 17, 2021. Orders will be available for pick up at the bookstore starting Tuesday, June 1. Open stock will be available at the bookstore starting Thursday, June 3.
BrightCrowd Digital Memory Book
We will be collaborating with H&S to provide a digital memory book. BrightCrowd is a simple means for students to celebrate their successes and connect with each other. This book will create a platform to help celebrate the graduation of our undergraduate and graduate students, and also allow graduating students to share memories from their time on campus and stay connected. You can expect a note from H&S in mid to late May about joining BrightCrowd.
