Weijie Su honored with 2026 COPSS Presidents' Award
Stanford Statistics is proud to announce that our alum Weijie Su (PhD, 2016) has received the 2026 Presidents' Award from the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies. This is a tremendous achievement, presented annually to a young member of the statistical community in recognition of outstanding contributions to the profession. This site has previously lauded Weijie when he was selected for the 2022 Peter Gavin Hall IMS Early Career Prize as well as the 2023 ASA Noether Early-Career Scholar Award, and this latest feat will be no exception!
His citation from COPSS says it best:
For statistical foundations of generative AI including the watermarking, alignment, and rankings of LLMs; for advances in privacy preserving data analysis applied to the 2020 US Decennial Census; for improving peer review in machine learning; for foundational work in convex optimization; for wide‑ranging contributions to deep learning theory and high-dimensional inference.
