Wing Wong wins COPSS Distinguished Achievement Award

The Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies (COPSS) retired the R. A. Fisher Award and Lectureship in 2020 and created in its place the COPSS Distinguished Achievement Award and Lectureship. Joining a group that already includes our own Chernoff, Anderson, Efron, Olkin, and Wahba, Professor Wong is specially honored for his groundbreaking and fundamental contributions to statistical theory and applications, particularly in likelihood inference, Monte Carlo computation, Bayesian statistics, and computational biology. It is a notable commendation for meritorious achievement and scholarship in statistical science, recognizing the recipient's significant impact on scientific investigations; the list of past lecturers well reflects the prestige that COPSS and its member societies place on this award. Wing will deliver the COPSS Distinguished Lecture at JSM and it is anticipated that this lecture will be published in one of the COPSS society journals.
