Statistics, MCS and Mathematics Diploma Ceremony 2022

Statistics graduates and their families and friends are cordially invited to the department's Diploma Ceremony in Serra Grove immediately following the University's stadium ceremony for the 2022 graduates. Our ceremony is a joint celebration with the Math and Comp Sci undergraduate program and the Mathematics Department.

**Please note that the ground in Serra Grove is soil, leaves, twigs and mulch. We strongly recommend that you choose your footwear accordingly!**

General Information

Time
Our reception will be held prior to the diploma ceremony at approximately 11:30am-12:20pm. Grads and guests should be seated and ready for the ceremony's start by 12:30pm. The ceremony will last until approximately 2:30pm.

Seating and Ticket Information
Tickets are not required, and there is no reserved seating for guests. Guests may wish to arrive early for best seat selection. The majority of seating is in the shade.

Wheelchair Seating, Accessibility, and Other Services
Information about disability accommodations and special requests for Commencement weekend can be found on the main Commencement web site. Please note that the department does not have access to wheelchairs or golf carts, so these will not be provided at the department's diploma ceremony and reception sites. Guests are responsible for arranging their own transportation in and around the campus.

Your graduate can request accessible seating for the diploma ceremony through the RSVP (Google) form sent to them via email. PhD graduates should email the department's Student Services Manager directly.

For Graduates

Attendance
Regardless of whether you intend to participate in the Diploma Ceremony, all graduates (autumn, winter, spring) and "walkthroughs" (summer) must RSVP no later than May 1st.

Cap and Gown
March 7th through April 25th, you can order your cap and gown online via Stanford bookstore.

The deadline for online ordering is Monday, April 25th. Online orders and open-stock will be available from the Bookstore lower level on June 2nd. (Limited stock is available at the bookstore the day of graduation.)

Graduate Seating
All graduates will be seated alphabetically by program/degree in the section on the right-side, facing the stage. Upon arrival at Serra Grove, please look for the "RESERVED FOR GRADUATES" sign and locate your name within your designated major/program. If you cannot find a seat with your name on it, let your student services officer know immediately.

Accessibility
If you or your family need accessible seating, please indicate how many seats you will need in the RSVP webform you will receive from your student services admin. There will be a marked section of chairs for guests with wheelchairs and their families on the left side facing the stage. Please check in with student services for the correct location of these seats.

Letters of Invitation for Use by F-1 or J-1 Students
Students are advised to write their own invitation letters along with providing supporting documents.

For Guests

Location
The department ceremony will take place in the grove between Sequoia Hall and Jane Stanford Way.

Time
Graduates and guests generally arrive from the University's ceremony (stadium) at 11:30am. Everyone should be seated by 12:30pm. The ceremony will last until approximately 2:30pm.

General Seating and Ticket Information
Tickets are not required, and there is no reserved seating for your guests; We will have plenty of seating for your guests, however, they may wish to arrive early for best seat selection. Reception
We recommend eating a proper meal prior to the University ceremony and bringing a water bottle and a snack for later. Light refreshments are provided immediately prior to the diploma ceremony, starting at approximately 11:30am. (Location of Lomita Grove, between the Math and Stats buildings.)

Photography
There will be no professional photography at the event, but there is a small area on the exit side of the stage for photography. As a courtesy to all other graduates and guests, we ask that you leave the photography area once your graduate has walked across the stage so that other guests have the opportunity to take photos of their graduate.

COVID-19 Related Information
All visitors coming to Stanford must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or receive a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to arrival onsite at the visitor’s expense. Please refer to Stanford COVID-19 Health Alerts for Visitors for more details.

Restrooms are available in these nearby locations:

  • Memorial Church (One restroom on each side of building.)
  • Stanford Bookstore
  • Tresidder Union
  • Corner of Panama and Via Ortega
  • Braun Geology Corner (parking lot side)

Parking
Parking for the main Commencement ceremony is available in the parking lots surrounding the Stadium. Please note that some lots require a permit. Parking for guests with state-issued or temporary disabled parking permits is available in the Varsity Lot. Shuttle Service on campus and to/from Caltrain will be available.

We recommend leaving your car near the stadium and walking to the department ceremony located in Serra Grove.

Do not leave valuables in your car.

If you are attending the ceremony in the stadium, officials are implementing a new policy to provide a safer environment for the public and expedite entry into Stanford Stadium. This policy limits the size and types of bags permitted. Items must be carried or fit into a permissible bag.
