Stein Fellow Appointment

Rajarshi Mukherjee joins the Department of Statistics as a new Stein Fellow on September 1, 2014. He completed his PhD in Biostatistics from Harvard University after receiving both his bachelor's and master's degrees in Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute. At Harvard, he gave weekly lectures in graduate-level courses on advanced inference and measure-theoretic probability, as well as teaching summer classes in introductory probability and operational mathematics. His paper entitled "Hypothesis testing for sparse binary regression" appeared as part of the Student Paper Competition at JSM 2014 in Boston earlier this month.

Rajarshi lists among his research interests minimax hypothesis testing in high-dimensional regression against sparse alternatives; minimax estimation of nonlinear functionals by higher order influence function; and adaptive estimation and model selection.
